Where we stand on CE credit

Certificate of completion today. CE credit pending AGD PACE approval (application being prepared).

In the United States, continuing education counts toward licence renewal when the provider is recognised by the ADA’s Continuing Education Recognition Program or approved by the AGD Program Approval for Continuing Education. We hold neither today. The AGD PACE application is being prepared; nothing on this site is approved or accepted until that decision is issued, and we will say so here the day it changes either way.

Until then, what you get from a completed course is our own certificate of completion, with the date, the course, the chapters you finished and your exam results on it. That is a record of study — it is not credit. Do not submit it to a board as credit, and do not plan a renewal cycle around it.

If PACE approval is granted, hours will be assigned per course, the catalogue will show them, and founding members will be told directly. If it is not granted, you will be told that too, and the founding rate stands regardless.

What your state asks of you

We publish figures only for California, because that is the one we have read off the board’s own pages. Every other state differs in hours, cycle length, mandatory topics and how much may be taken online — so we link you to the boards rather than repeat numbers we have not verified.

California continuing education requirements
California licenseeHours per two-year cycleMandatory topics included
Dentist (DDS/DMD)50Infection control and the California Dental Practice Act, plus current CPR certification
Registered dental hygienist25Infection control and the California Dental Practice Act, plus current CPR certification

Figures are the standard renewal requirement and can change; the board is the authority, not this page. Requirements for registered dental assistants differ and are set separately. Confirm your own cycle at the Dental Board of California and, for hygienists, the Dental Hygiene Board of California.

Licensed somewhere else

Hours, cycles and online limits vary by state, and we are not going to guess at yours. Find your own board through the American Association of Dental Boards, then read the requirement in your board’s own words before you buy CE from anyone — us included.
